Bhonsle

Die Bhonsle waren eine einflussreiche Marathen-Dynastie in Britisch-Indien.

Angehörige der Familie regierten im 17. Jahrhundert in Satara, Thanjavur, Nagpur und Kolhapur.

Nach der Niederlage der Marathen im Dritten Marathenkrieg blieben die Bhonsle als autonome Herrscher in ihren Staaten an der Macht, erkannten aber die britische Oberhoheit an. Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts starben die Herrschenden Bhonslefamilien in Satara, Thanjavur und Nagpur aus und wurden von den Briten annektiert. Nur Kolhapur blieb bis 1947 als Fürstenstaat bestehen und trat dann Indien bei.
