Black Mark Production ist ein schwedisches Extreme-Metal-Label, das von Börje Forsberg gegründet wurde.^[1]

Geschichte

Das Label wurde im Jahr 1991 von Börje Forsberg gegründet. Forsberg war zuvor schon 30 Jahre lang im Musikgeschäft tätig. Black Mark Production hatte zunächst seinen Hauptsitz nur in Berlin, ließ sich aber später auch in Stockholm, Toronto und New York nieder. Das Label hat nun seinen Hauptsitz in der Villa Hammerheart in Bruzaholm, Schweden.

Zunächst nur in Europa aktiv, breitet sich das Label auch weiter in die USA und Kanada aus. Zu den bekanntesten Bands des Labels gehören Edge of Sanity, Cemetary, Lake of Tears, Morgana Lefay, Necrophobic, Nightingale, Bathory, Oz, Memento Mori und Fleshcrawl.^[2]

Besonders die Band Bathory war seit der Gründung des Labels eng mit diesem verbunden; die Behauptung, deren einziges konstantes Mitglied Quorthon sei der Sohn von Börje Forsberg gewesen^[3], ist umstritten^[4]. Die Band veröffentlichte ab der Gründung von Black Mark Production alle Tonträger dort, ebenso die Veröffentlichungen des Soloprojekts Quorthon, die „im Sinne von Verkaufsziffern hinter den Bathory-Alben zurückblieben“ und hauptsächlich runtergeladen werden^[5].
