Das Cancer Research Project (Krebserforschungsprojekt) wurde von Wissenschaftlern der Universität Oxford zusammen mit Biotechnologiefirmen ins Leben gerufen. Ähnlich wie das SETI@home- und das Folding@home-Projekt bediente es sich externer Rechenleistung aus Privathaushalten (Verteiltes Rechnen, Grid-Computing). Untersucht wurden spezielle Proteine, die unter Verdacht stehen, für die Entstehung von Krebs verantwortlich zu sein. Das Ziel war es, Verbindungen zu finden, die an das Zielprotein andocken, um es so unschädlich zu machen. Zwischenzeitlich waren rund 2,5 Millionen Rechner weltweit an dem Projekt beteiligt. Seit April 2007 ist das Projekt beendet.

Bei diesem Projekt wurden die Ergebnisse nicht der Allgemeinheit kostenlos zur Verfügung gestellt. Erlöse der kommerziellen Verwertung sollten allerdings der Universität Oxford zugute kommen.
