Complementizer

Mit dem englischen Begriff Complementizer (deutsch auch Komplementierer) versteht man in der Linguistik ein grammatisches Element, das einen Nebensatz als Komplement (Ergänzung) eines Verbs kennzeichnet, im Deutschen z. B. die Konjunktionen dass, ob u. a. in Sätzen wie:

  • Ich weiß, dass du ein Auto hast.
  • Ich weiß nicht, ob du ein Auto hast.

In diesen Beispielen ist der Nebensatz (Komplementsatz) jeweils ein Komplement des Verbs wissen im Hauptsatz, was durch die beiden Complementizer zum Ausdruck gebracht wird. Es handelt sich dabei um einen Fall von Subordination.

Der Terminus complementizer wurde von Rosenbaum (1967) eingeführt.
