Capitol Airlines

Capitol Airlines war eine US-amerikanische Charterfluggesellschaft die in den 1970er und 1980er Jahren größtenteils Charterflüge von Amerika nach Europa durchführte.

Geschichte

Ihre Hubs waren John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City, sowie der Flughafen Brüssel-Zaventem, in Belgien und der Flughafen San Juan, in Puerto Rico. Obwohl Capitol Airlines auch einige Linienflug Destinationen hatte, war das Unternehmen auf Charterflüge spezialisiert. Die Fluggesellschaft setzte vorwiegend Flugzeuge vom Typ Douglas ein. Die Flotte bestand aus Flugzeuge wie der Douglas DC-8, Super Constellations und ab 1980 wurden Douglas DC-10 geleast. Capitol Airlines führte auch viele militärische Charterflüge durch. Eine wichtige Route Mitte der 1970er Jahre war der Flug Frankfurt Rhein-Main Air Base. Mitte der 1980er Jahre musste Capitol Airlines Konkurs anmelden. Der neuen Eigentümer George Bachelor gründete daraus die Arrow Air.

Zwischenfälle

In den frühen 1980er Jahren, wurde eine Capitol Airlines DC-8 entführt und nach Kuba umgeleitet. Alle Passagiere überlebten.
