Die Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) ist die derzeit herrschende Partei in Malawi. Die Partei wurde im Februar 2005 vom malawischen Präsidenten Bingu wa Mutharika gegründet, nachdem er aus der United Democratic Front (UDF) ausgetreten war und viele Parteimitglieder aus anderen Parteien ebenfalls zur DPP gewechselt sind.[1]
Im Mai 2009 wurde der Vorsitzende der DPP, Bingu wa Mutharika, erneut zum Präsidenten gewählt. Von den 193 Parlamentssitzen gingen 114 and die DPP, was insbesondere deshalb erstaunlich ist, da die Partei zu der Zeit erst seit vier Jahren existierte.[2]
