Leos Carax (* 22. November 1960 in Suresnes, Frankreich, eigentlich Alexandre Oscar Dupont) ist ein französischer Filmregisseur.

Carax wurde erstmals bekannt, als er 1984 überraschend für seinen ersten Langfilm Boy Meets Girl in Cannes den Prix de la jeunesse gewann. Mit seinem darauffolgenden Film Die Nacht ist jung konnte er unter anderem auf der Berlinale Erfolge erzielen. Für seinen Film Die Liebenden von Pont-Neuf hatte Carax fast vier Jahre gebraucht, denn unvorhersehbare Ereignisse verlängerten die Produktionszeit - und trieben auch die Produktionskosten in die Höhe. Der Film galt damals als teuerster Film Frankreichs. 1999 meldete sich Carax mit seinem kontroversen Film Pola X zurück, der aber sowohl bei Kritikern wie auch Zuschauern durchfiel. Derzeit arbeitet Carax an dem Film Scars.

Sein Künstlername Leos Carax ist gebildet aus den Namen Alex und Oscar und hervorgegangen aus seinem bürgerlichen Namen Alexandre Oscar Dupont. Alex ist auch die Figur, die der Schauspieler Denis Lavant in Carax' Filmen spielt.
