Als Cathedral Group (deutsch: Kathedral-Gruppe) werden die dicht beieinander stehenden höchsten Gipfel der Teton Range bezeichnet. Alle Gipfel befinden sich im Grand-Teton-Nationalpark im US-Bundesstaat Wyoming.

Allgemeines

Der höchste Gipfel der Cathedral Group ist der Grand Teton, nach dem Gannett Peak der zweithöchste Gipfel in Wyoming. Die Gipfel der Kette sind zu einem großen Teil pyramidenförmig (ähnlich dem Matterhorn), bedingt durch die Auswirkungen von Gletscherbewegungen und Schmelze.

Die Cathedral Group ist abgetrennt von anderen hohen Bergen durch den Cascade Canyon im Norden und im Süden durch den Death Canyon. Die Hälfte der verbliebenen Gletscher in der Teton Range liegen in dieser Gebirgsgruppe. Dazu zählen der Teton Glacier, welcher der größte in diesem Gebiet ist, der Middle Teton Glacier, Teepe Glacier und der Schoolroom Glacier.

In der Gruppe befinden sich mehrere hochgelegene Talkessel und U-förmige Täler, außerdem sind viele Berggräte anzutreffen. Die Ursache für all diese geographischen Eigenschaften der Cathedral Group sind Gletscher, welche ihren Untergrund stark formen können (Detersion und Detraktion).

Am Fuße der Cathedral Group sind sehr viele Gletscherseen anzutreffen, z.B. Jenny Lake, Bradley Lake und Taggart Lake. Diese Seen entstanden, als die Gletscher der letzten Eiszeit geschmolzen sind. Außerdem sind vereinzelt auch hoch gelegene Seen in der Gebirgsgruppe unter den Gipfeln anzutreffen.

Berge der Cathedral Group

Acht der zehn höchsten Gipfel der Teton Range befinden sich in der Cathedral Group. Dies sind der Grand Teton, Mount Owen, Middle Teton, South Teton, Teewinot Mountain, Teepe Pillar, Cloudveil Dome und der Buck Mountain.
