I Hate This Place

I hate this place ist ein Einmann-Synthpop-Projekt des philippinisch-amerikanischen Musikers Sean Nerney (*24. Dezember 1983 in Singapur).

Geschichte

Das Projekt entstand 2003 in den USA. 2004 erschien das erste Album, "One Minute Mayhem", das eine Ansammlung von Popsongs beinhaltete. 2005 folgte "Diversions", 2006 "Aero". Letzteres wies bereits den heute typischen Sound von I hate this place auf: experimentelle, aber auch poppige elektronische Klanglandschaften mit melancholischen Texten und dem zurückgenommenen Gesang von Sean Nerney. Das 2007 veröffentlichte Album "Nowhere Else" veranlasste das japanische Label MediaFactory's XTAL Records, Nerney einen Plattenvertrag anzubieten. Nachdem dort zuerst eine Zusammenstellung seiner bisherigen Arbeit produziert wurde ("Never Go", 2008), erschien im selben Jahr das Album "Our Hearts Still Beating", das einen größeren Bekanntheitsgrad erlangte. Ihm folgte 2009 das Album "Snowlights".

Sean Nerney lebt in Singapur.
