Institute for New Economic Thinking

Einige Ökonomen, führende Persönlichkeiten und Entscheidungsträger gründeten Ende Oktober 2009 das Institute for New Economic Thinking (INET) um neue Denkansätze für die Volkswirtschaftslehre zu entwickeln [1]. Der Hauptsitz des Instituts wird New York sein. Neben New York soll es in verschiedenen Ländern „Außenposten“ des INET geben, die eng mit Universitäten kooperieren sollen.

Mitbegründer sind unter anderem George Akerlof, Sir James Mirrlees, A. Michael Spence und Joseph Stiglitz [2]. George Soros unterstützt das Projekt mit 50 Millionen US-Dollar. Weitere Mitglieder des Gründungsbeirats sind Jeffrey Sachs, Willem Buiter, Markus K. Brunnermeier, Robert Dugger, Duncan Foley, Thomas Ferguson, Roman Frydman, Ian Goldin, Charles Goodhart, Anatole Kaletsky, John Kay, Axel Leijonhufvud, Perry Mehrling, Y.V. Reddy, Ken Rogoff, John Shattuck, William R. White und Yu Yongding.

Geschäftsführer des INET-Instituts ist der Wirtschaftswissenschaftler Robert Johnson, früherer Managing Director des Hedge-Fonds Soros Fund Management.

Ziele

Das Institut wird Forschungsstipendien vergeben, Symposien veranstalten und eine Zeitschrift herausgegeben. Es gehe darum neue Paradigmen zu finden und den „marktfundamentalistischen Konsens“ der Wirtschaftswissenschaften zu erschüttern [3].
