John Dear

John Dear (* 13. August 1959 in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, USA) ist ein US-amerikanischer Priester des katholischen Jesuitenordens, Hochschullehrer, Friedensaktivist und Autor über Gewaltlosigkeit.

Leben

John Dear nutzt die Methoden des Zivilen Ungehorsams als Weg, gegen Krieg und Gewalt zu protestieren. Im Nachgang seiner Proteste wurde er mehr als 75 Mal inhaftiert; seine längste Haftstrafe belief sich auf acht Monate Gefängnis zuzüglich neun Monaten Hausarrest. Diese erhielt er für seine Beteiligung an einer Pflugscharbewegung-Entwaffnungsaktion. In der Folge verlor Dear auch seine Wahlrechte in den Vereinigten Staaten, das freie Reiserecht und erfährt besondere Untersuchungen auf Flughäfen.
