Manal al-Sharif (* 1978 oder 1979 in Saudi-Arabien) ist eine saudische IT-Beraterin, die für das Unternehmen Aramco arbeitet. Bekannt wurde sie für ihr Engagement für das Recht, auch als Frau in Saudi-Arabien Auto fahren zu dürfen. Dieses Recht fordert sie in ihrer Kampagne Woman 2 Drive ein. Nachdem sie sich von Wajeha al-Huwaider am Steuer eines Wagens filmen ließ und das Video im Internet veröffentlichte, wurde sie am 22. Mai 2011 von Sicherheitsbehörden nachts wegen Aufwiegelns der öffentlichen Meinung gegen den Staat verhaftet.[1][2] Amnesty International forderte ihre Freilassung.[3] Am 30. Mai 2011 wurde sie unter Auflagen freigelassen.[4]
