Public Understanding

Public Understanding, auch Public Understanding of Science (engl. "Verständliche Wissenschaft") bezeichnet den Dialog zwischen Wissenschaften und der breiten Öffentlichkeit mit dem Ziel, wissenschaftliche Inhalte fachfremden Personen und Institutionen zugänglich und verständlich zu machen.

Ziele

Ein verständlicher Wissenschafts-Dialog soll dabei Wissenschaft und Gesellschaft näher zusammen bringen und die Ängste gegenüber technischen Innovationsprozessen abbauen. Die Neugier für Wissenschaft, Technik und Forschung soll vor allem bei Kindern und Jugendlichen gefördert werden.

Wissenschaft im Dialog

In Deutschland wurde 1999 die Initiative "Wissenschaft im Dialog" gegründet, um durch verschiedene Maßnahmen und Projekte den Wissenschaftsdialog zu fördern.[1] Eine Auswahl an Projekten findet sich nachstehend:

  • "MS Wissenschaft": Ausstellung an Bord eines Binnenfrachtschiffes quer durch Deutschland
  • "Wissenschaftssommer": Wanderausstellung durch deutsche Städte und Regionen
  • "Science Station": Interaktive Wanderausstellung an Bahnhöfen
  • "Lange Nacht der Wissenschaften": Z.B. "Die klügste Nacht des Jahres" in Berlin und Potsdam [2]
  • "Science Festivals": mehrtägige regionale Wissenschaftsfestivals
  • Schülerlabore und Kinderunis
  • "Science Slams": Wortgefechte, bei denen die Teilnehmer in ca. 10 min ihre Forschungsarbeiten verständlich erklären müssen

Verständliches Schreiben

Auch verschriftlichte Wissenschaftsthemen bedürfen demnach eines verständlichen Textes.[3] Dazu gehört dass die Texte einfach sind, sowie Prägnanz und Übersichtlichkeit besitzen. Verschieden Kommunen erwägen aus dem Juristendeutsch eine bürgernahe Verwaltungssprache zu konzipieren.[4]
