Ein klassischer „homemade“ Sloppy Joe.

Ein Sloppy Joe ist ein ursprünglich US-amerikanischer Imbiss, bei dem eine Hackfleischsauce, ähnlich einem Hamburger, auf einem Brötchen serviert wird.

Zutaten

Die Hackfleischsauce besteht bei der klassischen Variante aus Rinderhackfleisch, Zwiebeln, Tomaten und verschiedenen Gewürzen. Angerichtet wird die Sauce auf einem Hamburgerbrötchen.

Herkunft

Das Gericht Sloppy Joe wurde erstmals in der gleichnamigen Bar in Key West im US-Bundesstaat Florida zubereitet. Das Sloppy Joe's war eine der Bars in der Ernest Hemingway verkehrte. Sie wurde 2006 in das US-National Register of Historic Places (Nationales Verzeichnis der Historischen Stätten) eingetragen.

Besonders beliebt wurde der Sloppy Joe als Gericht bei den US-Streitkräften aufgrund seiner schnellen Zubereitungszeit. Für diesen gelten nicht die vorgeschriebenen langen Garzeiten eines klassischen Hamburgers.
