Washington Senators

Der Name Washington Senators ist im amerikanischen Profisport mehrfach für Teams aus Washington, D.C. benutzt worden.

Abgesehen von einem kurzlebigen Football-Franchise (1921-1922) sind drei Baseball-Teams dieses Namens aufzuführen:

  • Ein Team von 1891–1899 mit Teilnahme sowohl in der American Association, einer heute nicht mehr existierenden Baseball-Liga, als auch in der National League. Dieses Franchise fiel einer Mitgliederzahl-Reduzierung der Liga von zwölf auf acht Mannschaften zum Opfer.
  • Ein Team der American League, das von 1901 bis 1960 bestand und seit seinem Umzug nach Minneapolis als Minnesota Twins weiterhin in der American League spielt.
  • Ein unmittelbar nach dem Wegzug des oben genannten Teams neu gegründetes Major League Baseball Franchise, das zunächst von 1961 bis 1971 in Washington spielte, mittlerweile aber als Texas Rangers (ebenfalls in der American League) antritt.

Seit 2005 existiert mit den Washington Nationals erneut ein Major League Baseball-Team mit Sitz in Washington, D.C.
