DICT

DICT

DICT ist ein Netzwerkprotokoll zur Übermittlung von Wörterbuch-Einträgen. Es wurde von der DICT Development Group entwickelt, um das bis dahin gängige, proprietäre Webster-Protokoll abzulösen und um Nutzern die gleichzeitige Abfrage mehrerer Wörterbücher zu ermöglichen. Die Spezifikationen des DICT-Protokolls sind im RFC 2229 definiert.

Zu den bekanntesten DICT-Clients gehören heute KDict (für KDE), das Gnome Dictionary (für GNOME), OmniDictionary (für Mac OS X) und die Dict-Erweiterung für Mozilla.
