Die Existenz des Fast Attack Vehicle (FAV), auch bekannt als Scorpion, Desert Patrol Vehicle (DPV) oder Light Strike Vehicle (LSV), wurde erstmals während des 2. Golfkriegs einer breiten Öffentlichkeit bekannt. Mitglieder von SEAL Team 3 erreichten als erste alliierte Einheiten überhaupt das von irakischen Truppen fluchtartig verlassene Kuwait-Stadt in ihren FAVs, gefilmt von CNN. Diese Fahrzeuge werden von amerikanischen Spezialeinheiten auf Missionen tief hinter feindlichen Linien eingesetzt. Sie sind schnell, enorm geländegängig und relativ schwer bewaffnet. Ihr Nachteil ist, dass die Besatzung feindlichem Feuer schutzlos ausgesetzt ist, was zur Folge hat, dass ihre Rolle als Aufklärungsfahrzeug gegenüber jener als Waffenplattform wieder schwerer gewichtet wurde.
