Dog box

Der Begriff Dog box wird im Autosport verwendet. Es handelt sich dabei um die Bezeichnung für ein Getriebe ohne die typische H-Schaltung, wie man sie auch vom normalen Auto kennt. Die einzelnen Zahnräder werden auf einer Ebene (sequenziell) geschaltet, genau wie bei einem Motorrad. Um diesen Schaltvorgang durchführen zu können, verschiebt im Getriebe eine Klaue die Ritzel ineinander und bewirkt so jeweils ein anderes Übersetzungsverhältnis. Da die Klaue die Form des bekannten Hundefutters in Langknochenform hat (z. B. Humerus), wurde diese Getriebeart von Anglophonen Dog box genannt.
