Doula

Eine Doula (von altgriechisch δούλη (doulê) „Dienerin“, „Sklavin“, „Magd“) ist eine Frau, die einer werdenden Mutter vor, während und nach der Geburt als emotionale und physische Begleiterin zur Seite steht. Sie versteht sich als Schwangerschafts-, Geburts- und Wochenbettbegleiterin. Sie kümmert sich intensiv um die Frau und unterstützt durch zuverlässige und kompetente Anwesenheit. Sie entlastet den Partner und hilft ihm, mit der Situation zurechtzukommen. Voraussetzung für diesen Beruf ist, dass eine angehende Doula selbst zumindest ein Kind geboren hat. In Deutschland und Österreich ist diese Berufsgruppe noch nicht sehr bekannt, in der Schweiz hat sich der Bekanntheitsgrad in den letzten Jahren vergrößert.

Doula-Vereinigungen weltweit

Der Verein „DONA International“ ist die größte und älteste Doula-Vereinigung weltweit. Sie hat zur Zeit mehr als 7000 Geburts- und Wochenbett-Doulas und besteht seit 1992. In der Schweiz gibt es den „Verband Doula CH“, gegründet im Jahr 2006. In Österreich haben sich Doulas ebenfalls 2006 zu dem Verein „DiA-Doulas in Austria“ zusammengeschlossen. 2008 wurde in Freisbach der deutsche Doula-Verband „Doulas in Deutschland e.V.“ ins Leben gerufen.

Ausbildung

In Deutschland bietet Melanie Schöne in Kooperation mit Doulas in Deutschland e.V. und DONA International eine Doula-Ausbildung an. Die GfG, Gesellschaft für Geburtsvorbereitung - Familienbildung und Frauengesundheit e.V., bietet ebenfalls eine Weiterbildung zur GfG-Doula an.
