Far Rockaway ist eines der vier Viertel auf der Rockaway-Halbinsel des New Yorker Bezirks Queens. Far Rockaway bezeichnet den östlichsten Abschnitt dieser Halbinsel, in etwa das Gebiet östlich der Beach 77th Street.

Far Rockaway hat einen innenstädtischen Charakter trotz des angrenzenden Ozeans und ähnelt mehr Asbury Park (New Jersey) als New York City. Far Rockaway ist einer der am weitesten von Manhattan entfernten Stadtteile New Yorks.

Obwohl es früher mehrheitlich von aus Osteuropa stammenden Juden und Iren bewohnt wurde, hat es heute einen großen Anteil von Afroamerikanern; der westlichste Teil Far Rockaways ist immer noch irisch geprägt.

Die Far Rockaway Beach zählt heute (2010) zu den beliebten Stränden New Yorks am Atlantik. [1]
