Foot-loose industry

Als footloose industry (engl., wörtlich: „ungebundene Industrie“) wird in der Wirtschaftsgeographie ein Industriezweig bezeichnet, der nicht an bestimmte Standorte gebunden ist, es also gleichgültig ist wo die Produktion stattfindet. Dies ist bei Industrien der Fall, die ubiquitäre, also allgegenwärtige Materialien (z.B. Luft und Wasser) oder aber Materialien aus verschiedensten Herkunftsorten verarbeiten. Daher bezeichnet man allgemein solche Industrien als „ungebunden“, bei denen durch die Ansiedlung an einem Standort keine Transportkostenvorteile entstehen. Des Weiteren sind in nicht standortgebundenen Industrien qualifizierte Arbeitskräfte oder Fühlungsvorteile von geringer Bedeutung bei der Standortwahl.
