Albert Levan

Johan Albert Levan (* 8. März 1905; † 1998) war ein schwedischer Botaniker und Genetiker.

Seine bedeutendste Veröffentlichung ist die 1956 zusammen mit Joe Hin Tjio ermittelte korrekte Chromosomenzahl von 46 des menschlichen Genoms. Vorher wurde diese allgemein mit 48 angenommen, was auf einen Bericht von Theophilus Shickel Painter zurückgeht. Levan war von 1961 bis 1973 Professor der Zellbiologie an der Universität Lund und leitete dort das Krebschromosomenlabor am Institut für Genetik.

Er wurde 1967 zum Mitglied der Königlich Schwedischen Akademie der Wissenschaften gewählt.
