Ursula Gather (* 1953[1] in Mönchengladbach) ist Rektorin der Technischen Universität Dortmund und Professorin für mathematische Statistik und industrielle Anwendungen.

Leben

Gather schloss 1976 das Studium der Mathematik an der RWTH Aachen ab. Von Juni 1976 bis September 1986 war sie dort als wissenschaftliche Assistentin am Institut für Statistik und Wirt­schaftsmathematik tätig. Ihre Promotion zum Thema Über Ausreißertests und Ausreißeranfälligkeit von Wahrscheinlichkeitsverteilungen beendete sie 1979 und habilitierte sich 1984.

In der Zeit von August 1985 bis Mai 1986 war sie als Professorin im Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science der University of Iowa tätig. Im Oktober 1986 erhielt Frau Gather den Ruf an die Fakultät Statistik der Universität Dortmund. Im folgenden Jahr wurde ihr der mit 850.000 DM dotierte Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach-Preis für junge Hochschullehrer zuerkannt.

Gather hatte mehrere Gastprofessuren -unter anderem an der Yale University inne. Sie war Prorektorin, Senatsmitglied und Dekanin, bevor sie am 30. Mai 2008 vom Hochschulrat zur Rektorin der Technischen Universität Dortmund gewählt wurde. Diese Funktion nimmt sie seit dem 1. September 2008 wahr.

Ursula Gather ist mit einem Unternehmer verheiratet und Mutter von zwei Söhnen
