Das Deutsche Historische Institut in Washington (DHI) oder German Historical Institute Washington D.C. (GHI-DC) ist eines der vom Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung finanzierten historischen Auslandsinstitute. Es besteht seit 1987 und ist Teil der Stiftung Deutsche Geisteswissenschaftliche Institute im Ausland. Sitz ist das Second Blair House in der New Hampshire Avenue. Direktoren waren bisher Hartmut Lehmann (1987–1993), Detlef Junker (1994–1999) und Christof Mauch (1999–2007). Seit 2008 wird das Institut von dem Wirtschafts- und Sozialhistoriker Hartmut Berghoff geleitet.
Das DHI betreibt und fördert Forschungen zur neueren und neuesten Geschichte Deutschlands, der USA und der deutsch-amerikanischen Beziehungen durch Konferenzen, Vortragsreihen, Veröffentlichungen, Stipendienprogramme und den Unterhalt einer wissenschaftlichen Bibliothek. Forschungsschwerpunkte liegen zudem in der Wirtschafts- und Konsumgeschichte.
Schwesterinstitute bestehen in Rom, Paris, London, Warschau, Tokio, Moskau sowie Beirut/Istanbul.
