Global Online Freedom Act

Der Global Online Freedom Act (gofa) bezeichnet ein Gesetz des US-Kongresses, welches die Zusammenarbeit von Online-Unternehmen mit Staaten regulieren soll, welche die freie Meinungsäußerung im Internet unterdrücken. Das Problem: Unternehmen wie Google, Yahoo und Microsoft haben in China der staatlich geforderten Selbstzensur zugestimmt, um auf dem wachsenden chinesischen Markt aktiv sein zu können.

Im Sommer 2006 wurde der gofa vom US-Kongress verabschiedet, befindet sich aber noch im Gesetzgebungsverfahren. Das EU-Parlament hat bereits im Juli eine Resolution zur freien Meinungsäußerung im Internet beschlossen, eine verbindliche Regelung durch die EU-Kommission fehlt allerdings noch.
