Gonaïves (Gonayiv in Kreyòl) ist eine Stadt im Norden von Haiti, die Hauptstadt des Artibonite-Ressorts. In Gonaïves leben 104.825 Einwohner (Volkszählung 2003).

Die Stadt ist als Haitis „Unabhängigkeitsstadt“ bekannt, da Jean-Jacques Dessalines hier am 1. Januar 1804 die Unabhängigkeit Haitis ausrief.

Während der Zeit der Militärdiktatur von 1991–1994 war Gonaïves Schauplatz von Plünderungen, Gewalt und Morden durch Militärs und Paramilitärs, da die Stadt ein Zentrum des Widerstandes war. Am 5. Februar 2004 wurde die Stadt von der Organisation RARF (Revolutionary Artibonite Resistance Front) übernommen, was den Start für den Aufstand im Jahr 2004 bedeutete. Im September 2004 verursachte die atlantische Hurrikansaison 2004 große Überschwemmungen und Schlammlawinen in der Stadt, welche für den Tod von wahrscheinlich ca. 3000 Menschen (1650 Tote wurden bestätigt) verantwortlich waren. Praktisch jedes Gebäude wurde durch den Sturm beschädigt, 250.000 Menschen wurden obdachlos.
