Bus der Greyhound Lines im aktuellen Design

Die Greyhound Lines mit Hauptsitz in Dallas sind das größte Unternehmen im Fernbuslinienverkehr in Nordamerika. Sie befinden sich im Besitz des britischen Transportkonzerns FirstGroup. Das Unternehmen wurde 1914 von Carl Wickman gegründet. Mit seinem Bus transportierte er Bergleute von Hibbing nach Alice (Minnesota). Der Name des Unternehmens geht auf die Hunderasse Greyhound zurück, welche als die typische Windhund-Rasse angesehen wird. Das von Greyhound verwendete Logo eines springenden Windhundes ist nach Firmenangaben eines der bekanntesten Logos in den USA[1].

Nach eigenen Angaben bedient Greyhound 3100 Ziele in Nordamerika. Greyhound beschäftigt 8400 Mitarbeiter in den USA und befördert 22 Millionen Fahrgäste pro Jahr. Das Unternehmen verfügt über etwa 1250 Busse, die durchschnittlich sieben Jahre alt sind. Außer den Fahrgasttransporten bietet die Firma auch Paketversand und einen Kurierdienst an.


Im Titel des Liedes Greyhound Bus von The Moldy Peaches wird auch auf das Unternehmen angespielt.
