HMS Black Prince

Fünf Schiffe der britischen Royal Navy trugen den Namen HMS Black Prince. Dieser geht zurück auf Edward, the Black Prince (1330-1376), dem ältesten Sohn von König Edward III. von England.

  • Die erste HMS Black Prince (1650) war ein Schiff mit 10 Kanonen, das von Königstreuen im März 1650 erworben wurde und von Parlamentstreuen am 4. November desselben Jahres verbrannt wurde.
  • Die zweite HMS Black Prince (1816), Stapellauf 1816, war ein Schiff dritter Klasse, welches als Gefängnisschiff bis 1848 im Dienst war und 1855 abgewrackt wurde.
  • Die dritte HMS Black Prince (1861), Stapellauf 1861, war das zweite Kriegsschiff der Warrior-Klasse. Es wurde 1878 in die Reserveflotte versetzt und 1896 zum Übungsschiff umgewandelt. Im Jahr 1903 wurde sie in Emerald und 1910 in Impregnable III. Schließlich wurde sie 1923 verschrottet.
  • Die vierte HMS Black Prince (1904) war ein Kreuzer der Duke-of-Edinburgh-Klasse. Dieser wurde mit seiner gesamten Besatzung während der Skagerrakschlacht 1916 versenkt.
  • Die fünfte HMS Black Prince (1942) war ein Kreuzer der Dido-Klasse (Unterklasse Bellona), der während des Zweiten Weltkrieges an vielen Einsätzen teilnahm. Nach dem Krieg wurde sie 1946 an die Royal New Zealand Navy übergeben und 1962 verschrottet.
