Haplont

Haplonten sind Organismen, deren Zellen stets einen einfachen (haploiden) Chromosomensatz enthalten.

Nur die befruchtete Eizelle (Zygote) dieser Lebewesen besitzt einen doppelten Chromosomensatz, ist also diploid. Dies beruht darauf, dass die bei der Befruchtung durch Verschmelzung zweier haploider Gameten entstandene Zygote bei ihrer Weiterentwicklung als erstes die Meiose (Reduktionteilung) vollzieht und daher bei ihrer Teilung sofort wieder haploide, als Gonen bezeichnete Zellen liefert. Bei einer in zwei Teilschritten verlaufenden Meiose entstehen vier Gonen. Der gesamte Sexualprozess erfolgt somit beim Haplonten zusammenhängend.

Haplonten sind alle Gregarinen und Coccidien (Sporozoen), sowie Flagellaten (zum Beispiel Chlamydomonas), Algen (zum Beispiel Spirogyra) und Pilze (zum Beispiel Dipodascus).
