Hoklo

Hoklo (auch: Holo (Hō-ló)) bezeichnet im weiteren Sinne die Chinesen, deren Muttersprache der Süd-Fujian-Dialekt des Chinesischen ist. Sie leben hauptsächlich in Fujian, Guangdong sowie auf den Inseln Hainan und Taiwan. Im engeren Sinne ist damit die Gruppe von Taiwanern gemeint, die ursprünglich aus dem südlichen Teil der Provinz Fujian stammen. Ihre Muttersprache ist Taiwanisch, ein Unterdialekt des Min Nan.

Volksgruppe

Sie stellen mit 70 % der Bevölkerung die größte Gruppe Taiwans dar. Die andere Gruppe, der „Taiwaner“, die ethnisch überwiegend aus Han-Chinesen besteht, stellen die Hakkas mit 15 % der Bevölkerung dar. Viele Hoklos sehen ihre Vorfahren in den im 17. und 18. Jh. von den Niederländern als Arbeitskräfte benötigten Einwanderern.
