Das Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) ist ein Gruppe von Forschungslabors in den Vereinigten Staaten. Sitz der Organisation ist in Chevy Chase, Maryland. Sie wurde 1953 durch den amerikanischen Unternehmer Howard Hughes gegründet. Präsident des HHMI ist seit 2009 Robert Tjian, sein Vorgänger war Thomas R. Cech.[1][2]

Mit einem Stiftungsvermögen von 17,5 Milliarden US-Dollar ist es eine der reichsten Stiftungen in Amerika. Seit 2003 ist Gerald M. Rubin, Ph.D., Direktor der Stiftung.
