Die International Musicological Society (IMS) (deutsch: Internationale Gesellschaft für Musikwissenschaft) ist eine am 30. September 1927 in Basel gegründete Organisation, die Teil des Conseil International de la Philosophie et des Sciences Humaines (CIPSH), einer Unterorganisation der UNESCO, ist.
Das Hauptquartier der Organisation befindet sich noch heute in Basel. Das angestrebte Ziel der IMS ist die internationale Zusammenarbeit all derjenigen, die an musikwissenschaftlichen Fragestellungen interessiert sind. Dabei steht sie international sowohl Einzelpersonen als auch Einrichtungen offen.[1] Sie finanziert sich über die Mitgliedsbeiträge und auch über Spenden und sonstige Fördermittel.[2]
Publikation
Die Gesellschaft gibt die Fachzeitschrift Acta Musicologica heraus. In der in Basel beheimateten Zeitschrift erscheinen in mehreren Sprachen musikwissenschaftliche Forschungsarbeiten von internationaler Bedeutung. Acta Musicologica erscheint seit 1954 im Bärenreiter-Verlag Basel. Pro Jahr kommen zwei Hefte heraus.
