Die International Society for Contemporary Music (ISCM) ist eine internationale Dachorganisation zur Förderung der Neuen Musik. Im deutschsprachigen Raum wird sie auch als Internationale Gesellschaft für Neue Musik (IGNM) bezeichnet.
Organisation
Die ISCM wurde 1922 in Salzburg gegründet. Das Sekretariat der Organisation befindet sich heute in Amsterdam. Die ISCM versteht sich als internationales Netzwerk zur Förderung der Neuen Musik. Eine zentrale Aufgabe ist die Veranstaltung der Weltmusiktage, die an jährlich wechselnden Orten stattfinden. Im Rahmen der Weltmusiktage findet neben musikalischen Veranstaltungen zur Neuen Musik auch ein Mitgliedertreffen der Organisation statt.
Die ISCM verfügt über 49 internationale Sektionen (Stand 2008) in einzelnen Ländern. Diese sind gewöhnlich unabhängig von der Dachorganisation und senden Delegierte zur Hauptversammlung der ISCM. Die Mitglieder der Sektionen sind ebenfalls Mitglieder der ISCM; sie können bis zu sechs Werke für die Aufführung im Rahmen der Weltmusiktage vorschlagen.
Länderorganisationen, die zeitgenössische Musik fördern, aber nicht den Status einer Landessektion der ISCM besitzen, können als assoziierte Mitglieder geführt werden. Dieser Status überträgt sich auch auf die Mitglieder dieser Organisationen. Einzelne Berufsmusiker werden als Ehrenmitglieder geführt.
Die ISCM gibt das World New Music Magazine heraus.
