Ivy Compton-Burnett

Ivy Compton-Burnett (* 5. Juni 1884 in London; † 27. August 1969 ebenda) war eine englische Schriftstellerin.

Compton-Burnet ist eine Vertreterin der englischen Erzählliteratur der Moderne. Sie verfasste Romane, die vorwiegend aus stilisierten Dialogen bestehen. Meist stehen familiäre Konflikte im Vordergrund. Ihre wichtigsten Werke sind Men and Wives (1931), Eine Familie und ein Vermögen (1939) und Parents and Children (1941).

Peter Marginter übersetzte vier Romane von Ivy Compton-Burnett ins Deutsche: Ein Gott und seine Gaben (1989), Eltern und Kinder (1990), Hoch und Heilig (1991) und Diener und Bediente (1992).
