Joseph Leonard Goldstein (* 18. April 1940 in Sumter, South Carolina, USA) ist ein US-amerikanischer Genetiker.

1985 erhielt er den Albert Lasker Award for Basic Medical Research und zusammen mit Michael Stuart Brown den Nobelpreis für Physiologie oder Medizin „für ihre Entdeckungen betreffend der Regulierung des Cholesterin-Stoffwechsels“[1]

Goldstein studierte Chemie an der Washington and Lee University (Bachelor 1962) und Medizin am University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center mit dem M. D. Abschluss 1966. Am Southwestern Medical Center, wo er heute Professor ist, führte er mit Brown in den 1970er Jahren die Arbeiten aus, für die beide später mit dem Nobelpreis geehrt wurden. 1976 waren beide mit dem Pfizer Award in Enzyme Chemistry, 1981 mit dem Gairdner Foundation International Award ausgezeichnet worden.
