Joy Harjo

Joy Harjo (* 9. Mai 1951 in Tulsa, Oklahoma) ist eine US-amerikanische Musikerin und Autorin.

Sie ist eine Angehörige des Muskogee-Volkes. Ihr musisches Talent könnte sie von ihren Vorfahren haben, denn diese waren unter anderem Maler. Nach der Schule studierte sie Kunst und Theater. Doch später begann sie damit, Gedichte zu schreiben. In Denver spielte sie in einer Band. Joy Harjo wollte das Singen erlernen und so kombinierten sie Jazz und Rock mit ihren Gedichten.

Ihre Gedichte schickte sie zu verschiedenen Zeitungen wie z. B. Massachusetts Review, The Bloomsbury Review, American Voice, Kenyon Review, Beloit Poetry Review, Greenfield Review and Puerto del Sol.

Von 1980 bis 1995 arbeitete sie an verschiedenen Universitäten als Lektorin, Professorin oder assistierende Professorin. Momentan unterrichtet sie an der University of California in Los Angeles.
