Julius List

Alfred Julius Eduard List (* 19. Dezember 1864 in München; † 31. Oktober 1914 im Schlosspark von Gheluvelt südöstlich von Ypern in Westflandern) war ein Offizier der Bayerischen Armee. Er wurde bekannt als Kommandeur des nach ihm benannten „Regiments List“ - des 16. Bayerischen Reserve-Infanterie-Regiments - in dem auch Adolf Hitler während des Ersten Weltkrieges als Soldat diente.

Leben

List besuchte das Gymnasium in München und kam 1882 zum 1. Infanterie-Regiment in München. Am 24. März 1883 wurde er zum Fähnrich, am 24. März 1885 zum Leutnant, am 28. Oktober 1899 zum Hauptmann - als Kompanieführer beim 1. Infanterie-Regiment -, am 26. Oktober 1906 zum Major und am 7. März 1912 schließlich zum Oberstleutnant - beim Stab des 12. Infanterie-Regiments - befördert.

Am 27. März 1913 wurde er Kommandeur des Landwehrbezirks I München, am 7. Januar 1914 Oberst und ab dem 5. September 1914 Kommandeur des neu aufgestellten bayerischen 16. Reserve-Infanterie-Regiments.

List wurde bereits zu Anfang des Fronteinsatzes seines Regiments bei der dreitägigen Schlacht von Gheluvelt am 31. Oktober 1914 schwer verwundet und starb am gleichen Tag an seiner Schrapnellwunde (Brustschuss) im Schlosspark von Gheluvelt. Dort wurde er auch begraben.

Nach dem Tod von List übernahmen in rascher Folge Franz Rubenbauer (29. Oktober bis 9. November 1914), Oberstleutnant Friedrich Petz (10. und 11. November), Oberstleutnant Philipp Engelhardt (12. bis 17. November 1914), dann wieder Friedrich Petz (16. bis 30. November) die Führung des Regiments. Der folgende Kommandeur Oberstleutnant Langenlos sollte dann für längere Zeit in der Funktion verbleiben.
