Lage der Provinz Manicaland in Simbabwe

Manicaland ist eine Provinz im Osten Simbabwes. Sie hat eine Fläche von 36.459 km² und etwa 1,6 Millionen Menschen leben in ihr (Stand 2002), was 13,5 Prozent der Gesamtpopulation Simbabwes ausmacht. In der Provinz Manicaland liegt auch der höchste Berg des Landes, der Inyangani mit 2596 m.

Die Hauptstadt der Provinz ist Mutare. Die Provinz selbst ist in sieben Distrikte aufgeteilt:

Ihren Namen hat die Provinz von den Manyika, ein Untergruppe der Shona mit eigener Sprache, welche sich in der Gegend niedergelassen haben.

Geschichte

Das Gebiet der heutigen Provinz ist fast identisch mit dem historischen Manikaland, einer ehemaligen britischen Kolonie.
