Marquess of Queensberry ist ein erblicher britischer Adelstitel in der Peerage of Scotland, benannt nach einem Hügel in Schottland. Er wird von Mitgliedern des Clans Douglas getragen.

Der Titel wurde 1682 für William Douglas, 3. Earl of Queensberry, kreiert. Er war oberster Richter und wurde nach der Erhebung dann Schatzkanzler Schottlands.

Seine Vorfahren führten bereits vor 1427 den Feudaltitel Baron Drumlanrig, der allerdings -wie alle schottischen Baronien- anders als die englische Baronswürde nicht zu den Adelstiteln gezählt wird. Der 9. Baron war dann 1628 zum Viscount of Drumlanrig und 1633 zum Earl of Queensberry erhoben worden.

Nachgeordnete Titel

Nachgeordnete Titel des Marquess of Queensberry sind Earl of Queensberry (geschaffen 1633), Viscount of Drumlanrig (geschaffen 1628) und Lord Douglas of Hawick and Tibbers (geschaffen 1628), alle in der Peerage of Scotland.

Der Marquess ist außerdem ein schottischer Baronet, of Kelhead. Dieser Titel wurde 1668 für einen Verwandten geschaffen und wird seit 1784 von den Marquesses geführt.

Der älteste Sohn und Titelerbe des Marquess führt den Höflichkeitstitel Viscount Drumlanrig, dessen ältester Sohn hat demgegenüber keinen Höflichkeitstitel.

Weitere Titel

Von 1684 bis 1810 waren die Marquesses gleichzeitig Dukes of Queensberry, nachdem dieser Titel an den ersten Marquess verliehen worden war. Die Dukedom ging 1810 auf die Dukes of Buccleuch über und wird seitdem von diesen geführt.

Der zweite Duke of Queensberry wurde 1708 zum Duke of Dover in der Peerage of Great Britain ernannt. Dieser Titel erlosch 1778 mit dem Tode des dritten Duke of Queensberry und zweiten Duke of Dover.

1893 wurde der älteste Sohn und Titelerbe des 9. Marquess, Francis Archibald Douglas, zum Baron Kelhead in der Peerage of the United Kingdom erhoben. Er starb kinderlos im folgenden Jahr, so dass der Titel wieder erlosch.
