Mike Varney

Mike Varney ist ein US-amerikanischer Musikproduzent. Unter seiner, von ihm selbst gegründeten, Plattenfirma genannt Shrapnel Records produziert und veröffentlicht er die Werke zahlreicher Gitarristen. Er hat es sich zur Lebensaufgabe gemacht, weltweit, talentierte Gitarristen zu suchen, um sie zu fördern.

Folgende virtuose Gitarristentalente aus dem Rock- bzw. Fusion-Bereich wurden unter der Zusammenarbeit mit Varney gefördert: Yngwie Malmsteen, Richie Kotzen, Paul Gilbert, Tony MacAlpine, Greg Howe, Marty Friedman, Michael Lee Firkins, Joey Tafolla, Vinnie Moore, Ron Thal und Jason Becker.

Varney produzierte ebenso einige, später bekannt gewordene, Heavy Metal-Bands wie zum Beispiel W.A.S.P., Keel, Vicious Rumors, Steeler und Racer X.

Ab Mitte der 1980er Jahre war sein Plattenlabel Shrapnel Records spezialisiert auf die Stilistiken des Instrumental-Fusion sowie auf gitarrenorienterte, qualitativ hochwertige Rockmusik.
