Die Familie Mononobe (jap. 物部氏, Mononobe-uji) war eines der ältesten japanischen Geschlechter in der Yamato-Zeit. Als Kaiser Jimmu die Region Kinki eroberte, waren die Mononobe bereits dort ansässig.

Die Mononobe schlugen sich auf Seiten des Kaisers und hatten in der Folge einen starken Einfluss auf den Kaiserhof, da sie die Position des Ōmuraji (Oberbefehlshaber) innehatten.

Im späten 6. Jahrhundert brach ein Konflikt zwischen den Mononobe und ihren Erzrivalen, den Soga aus. Die Mononobe kämpften dabei gegen die Soga, weil sie dem von den Soga eingeführten Buddhismus misstrauten und um ihren Einfluss fürchteten.

Mononobe no Moriya wurde 587 in einer Schlacht von Soga no Umako getötet und die Mononobe verloren ihre Bedeutung.

Die Mononobe hatten die Schirmherrschaft über den Isonokami-Schrein. Während der Nara-Zeit ging aus ihr das Geschlecht der Isonokami (石上氏, -uji) hervor.
