Moorreesburg ist eine Stadt mit 7.000 Einwohnern in der Gemeinde Swartland, Distrikt Westküste, Provinz Westkap in Südafrika, an der Straße N7, 100 Kilometer nördlich von Kapstadt auf 152 Meter Höhe über dem Meeresspiegel.^[1]

Haupteinkommensquelle der Stadt ist der Getreideanbau. Die Moorreesburg Cooperative produziert rund 140.000 Tonnen Weizen pro Jahr auf etwa 380 Farmen. Die Stadt liegt im Winterregengebiet, d. h. der jährliche Niederschlag von durchschnittlich 364 mm fällt hauptsächlich in den Monaten April bis Oktober.

Geschichte

Moorreesburg wurde benannt nach Reverend H. A. Moorrees. Gegründet wurde die Stadt 1890 als Kirche auf dem Gebiet der Farm Hooikraal. Stadtrecht erhielt die Ansiedlung 1898.

Sehenswürdigkeiten

Das Weizen-Industrie-Museum in Moorreesburg wurde am 10. Februar 1978 eröffnet.
