Moresby

John Moresby (* 15. März 1830; † 12. Juli 1922) war ein britischer Marine-Offizier, der die Küste von Neu-Guinea erforschte und den Landstrich entdeckte, auf dem heute Port Moresby liegt. Er wurde in Allerford (Somerset, England) geboren und war Sohn des Admirals Sir Fairfax Moresby.

Auf seiner Laufbahn in der Marine brachte er es bis zum Konteradmiral ("rear admiral"). Er starb am 12. Juli 1922 in Fareham (Hampshire, England).

Seine Tochter Elizabeth Louisa Moresby wurde eine bekannte Schriftstellerin, die aber verschiedene Pseudonyme benutzte.
