Naqus

Ein Naqus ist ein rechteckiges hölzernes Instrument, das in christlichen Klöstern des Mittelalters für den Ruf zum Gottesdienst verwendet wurde. Man benutzte es hauptsächlich in Nordafrika und der Arabischen Halbinsel.

Gespielt wurde der Naqus, indem man auf ihn mit einem Stab schlug.

Als man in der frühen islamischen Zeit nach einer Möglichkeit zum Gebetsruf suchte, schlugen die Gefährten Mohammeds vor, ein Feuer, eine Glocke, ein Hornsignal oder ebenfalls den Naqus zu verwenden, bevor man sich dann auf den Adhān (Gebetsruf) einigte.
