Die National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) ist ein US-amerikanischer Sportverband für Hochschulsport und geht zurück auf die National Association of Intercollegiate Basketball, welche am 10. Mai 1940 in Kansas City gegründet wurde. Ihr heutiges Hauptquartier hat sie in Olathe, einem Vorort von Kansas City.

Der ursprüngliche Zweck der NAIB bestand darin, eine nationale Basketballmeisterschaft zu organisieren. 1952 wurde die NAIB in die NAIA umgewandelt und unterstützte weitere Sportarten. Frauenbewerbe wurden schließlich 1980 geschaffen. Die NAIB/NAIA wurde auch aus dem Grund geschaffen, weil der größere und ältere Sportverband NCAA hauptsächlich auf die großen Hochschulen, insbesondere diejenigen welche im College Football erfolgreich waren, fixiert war. Als die NCAA 1973 schließlich auch eine Division II und III gründete, verlor die NAIA fortlaufend Hochschulen an den Konkurrenzverband und legte selber seine Divisionen I und II 1997 wieder zusammen. Im Jahr 2009 sind 307 Institutionen Mitglied in der NAIA.

Heute werden von der NAIA folgende Sportarten organisiert: American Football (Männer), Fußball, Volleyball (Frauen), Crosslauf, Basketball, Schwimmen, Leichtathletik, Ringen (Männer), Baseball (Männer), Softball (Frauen), Golf und Tennis.

Bis 1984 gab es ebenfalls eine Eishockey-Meisterschaft für Männer.
