Das National Museum of Natural History (dt.: Nationales Museum für Naturgeschichte) ist ein Museum für Naturgeschichte an der National Mall in Washington, D.C., Vereinigte Staaten. Es ist eines der 19 Museen der Smithsonian Institution. Der Eintritt ist kostenfrei und es ist, mit Ausnahme des 25. Dezembers, ganzjährig geöffnet. Die Sammlung umfasst etwa 500 Millionen Exemplaren von Pflanzen, Tieren, Fossilien, Mineralien, Steinen und Meteoriten sowie menschlichen kulturellen Artefakten. Mit 7,4 Millionen Besuchern war es 2009 das Museum mit den meisten Besuchern im Umfeld der Smithsonian Museen.[1] Außerdem beherbergt der Museumskomplex 185 Naturforscher, die größte Anzahl von Naturwissenschaftlern in einem Museum weltweit. Eröffnet wurde das Museum am 11. März 1910, die Bauarbeiten wurden allerdings erst am 20. Juni 1911 fertiggestellt.
