Die New York Metropolitan Area, auch Tri-States-Area oder Tri States Region (= Drei-Staaten-Region) genannt, ist die Metropolregion rund um New York City. Sie ist die einwohnermäßig größte Metropolregion der Vereinigten Staaten und die drittgrößte der Welt. Sie umfasst Teile der Staaten New York, New Jersey und Pennsylvania. Die New York-Northern New Jersey-Long Island Metropolitan Statistical Area hat eine Fläche von 17.405 km² und die Einwohnerzahl beträgt 18,9 Millionen (Stand: 2010). Die etwas weiter gefasste New York-Newark-Bridgeport Combined Statistical Area (zu der auch Teile des Staates Connecticut gezählt werden) weist sogar knapp 22 Millionen Einwohner (Stand: 2007) auf 30.671km² Fläche auf.
