Nezāmi (auch: Nizami) (persisch ‏نظامی گنجوی‎ - Neẓāmī-e Gandschawī; kurdisch: Nîzamî Gencewî, نیزامی گه‌نجه‌وی; aserbaidschanisch: Nizami Gəncəvi, eigentlicher Name: Elyās ebn-e Yūsef, vollständiger Name: Neẓām ad-Dīn Abū Muhammad Elyās ibn Yusūf ibn Zakī ibn Mu'ayyid; * um 1141 in Gəncə (Aserbaidschan); † 1205 oder 1209) war ein bedeutender Vertreter der persischsprachigen Literatur seiner Zeit.

Nezāmi wurde früh zum Waisenkind. Er wurde daher von seinem Onkel mütterlicherseits Chwadscha Umar aufgezogen. Seine Mutter Ra'isa war Kurdin^[1][2]. Von seinem Vater Yusūf wird angenommen, dass dessen Familie aus Qom^[2] stammte. Nezāmi heiratete dreimal.

Nezāmi war ein Günstling der damals in Aserbaidschan herrschenden Seldschukenfürsten. Über sein Leben, das er bis auf eine Reise in seiner Geburtsstadt Gəncə verbrachte, ist wenig bekannt.

Werke

Nezāmis Hauptwerk ist das Chamse („Fünf“) oder „die fünf Schätze“, das aus fünf Epen besteht:

• Machzan ol-Asrār ( ‏مخزن الاسرار‎ )
  „Der Schatz der Geheimnisse“, ein didaktisches Gedicht.
• Chosrou und Schirin ( ‏خسرو و شيرين‎ )
  Ein romantisches Epos, das die Liebe des persischen Königs Chosrou zur Schirin zum Gegenstand hat.
• Laili und Madschnun ( ‏ليلى و مجنون‎ )
  Romantisches Epos die Liebe des Madschnun zur schönen Leila besingend.
• Eskandar-Nāme ( ‏اسكندر نامه‎ )
  „Das Alexander-Buch“, eine sagenhaft ausgeschmückte Geschichte Alexanders des Großen in zwei Teilen, einem mehr epischen und einem didaktischen, in der u.a. auch die Weisheit des Eroberers gepriesen wird.
• Haft Peykar ( ‏هفت پيكر‎ )
  „Die sieben Bildnisse“ oder „Die sieben Schönheiten“, eine Sammlung von sieben Novellen in poetischer Form, darunter die durch Gozzi und Schiller bekannte Erzählung von Turandot.

Daneben verfasste Nezāmi noch einen Diwan mit Oden und Gedichten, der 28000 Distiche enthalten soll.
