Diese Vögel haben dunkle Beine und schmale spitze Schnäbel und erwachsene Vögel haben oft einen rostbraunen Oberkopf. Die Palmwaldsänger im Osten der USA zeichnen sich durch braun-oliven Rücken, gelben Bauch und rostbraune Streifen auf der Brust und Flanken aus. Vögel im Westen Nordamerikas haben einen hellen Bauch, dunklere Streifen auf der Brust und einen braun-grauen Rücken.
Die Brutgebiete des Palm-Waldsängers sind Regenmoore in Kanada und dem Nordosten der USA. Ihre napfförmigen Nester bauen die Vögel auf oder in der Nähe des Bodens.
Diese Zugvögel überwintern im Südosten der USA, Mexiko und auf den Karibischen Inseln.
Palm-Waldsänger suchen ihre Nahrung auf Nadelbäumen und dem Boden und fangen gelegentlich Insekten im Flug. Sie ernähren sich hauptsächlich von Insekten und Beeren.
Der Gesang gleicht einem monotonen Triller. Der Ruf ist ein scharfes Tscheck.
Man kann diese Vögeln an ihrem häufig wippenden Schwanz erkennen.
