Real World

Real World Studios ist das High-Tech-Aufnahmestudio des Labels Real World Records Ltd., das vom Musiker Peter Gabriel gegründet wurde. Es befindet sich in einem Bauernhof im Dorf Box in der Grafschaft Wiltshire. Seine Hauptaufgabe ist die Verbreitung von Weltmusik. Es dient Musikern der ganzen Welt als Sprungbrett, um ihre Musik in Gebiete und Kulturen zu bringen, die sie selber nicht erschließen können, speziell in die Vereinigten Staaten, in denen Musik aus Afrika, Asien und Lateinamerika selten über die gängigen Sender verbreitet wird.

Gabriel veröffentlicht seit 1989 alle seine eigenen Alben unter dem Real World Label und sein Einfluss hilft beim Verkauf von Weltmusik anderer Künstler. Sein Album Passion: Music for The Last Temptation of Christ ist ein Meilenstein für den Einzug der Weltmusik in die Popmusik. Das Real World Label hat Musiker wie Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Papa Wemba und Youssou N'Dour in der westlichen Kultur bekannt gemacht.

Real World gibt Musikern verschiedener Herkunft und Kultur die Gelegenheit, miteinander zu arbeiten und mit der musikalischen Verschmelzung zu experimentieren. Neben Peter Gabriel ist das Studio kommerziell am erfolgreichsten mit der Band Afro-Celt Sound System, die afrikanische und keltische Rhythmen und Melodien verschmilzt.
